Tell the World! This is Okinawa, "Paradise Occupied".
Less than two weeks before G8 "most industrialized nations" Summit Meetings, our island Okinawa, otherwise sub-tropical tiny resort island, is now under "martial law"-like situation.
Numerous police vehicles deployed from almost every part of Japan mainland are running through the street. Officers in full riot gear are stationed in front of luxually seaside hotels where foreign VIPs will stay.
Police check-points are set up at nearly every 2 kms along Hwy 58 from Onna Vil. to Nago City, Summit main venue. Cars may be arbitrarily stopped and searched, causing traffic congestion, hindering local residents' daily life, and in some case, resulting in serious human rights violation.
Amid this massive police presence, one week ago, a young US Marine soldier trespassed a local resident's house and sexually molested a junior highschool girl there.
I would like to ask: What are you defending? From who? Where is the "Terrorist"?
Is this a kind of collective punishment against Okinawan people for not having accepted a construction plan of a new US military base more generously?
