By means of drawings and letters, the children of Vieques have appealed several times to President Clinton to order the Navy out of Vieques without any arrests. The continuous bombing of their island and the noise of warplanes has traumatized many of them. Now, after one full year without any bombs, some have overcome some of their past fears and want to live in a bomb-free Vieques. The letters were originally written in Spanish at the "Toda la Familia con Vieques" event that took place in San Juan, Puerto Rico on April 23, 2000. Todo Puerto Rico Con Vieques, who kindly made accessible copy of the letters to us, organized that event. ------------------------------------------------ April 23, 2000 Dear Clinton: By the present I want to inform you that we want to tell you that we don't want one more bomb in our "Isla Nena". The US Navy has already destroyed enough our people with cancer and uranium in the blood. I will also like to tell you that our beaches are closed and we can't enjoy them, since they are the most beautiful ones. Mother nature is crying! Jose Cruz Morales 11 years #350 A.G.
